Greater Forcas Library
8 or so magic organizations (sometimes called houses) have historically squabbled over influence in the city of Forcas. Wizards from different houses have always traded parts of their private libraries in secret, seeking to increase their own power without their houses becoming aware. About a century ago, several wizards kicked out of their houses for this practice pooled their resources into an immense, multidisciplinary library open to any who would share their own materials. This coalition of outcasts eventually grew into an organization larger than any of the separate houses.
The GFL holds allegiance to no house. It archives mundane and magical texts, although the mundane books are a relatively recent addition. Its position as both a powerful civil entity and a neutral magical entity allow it to work above or around city law as well as magical oversight. Its agents have gained a reputation for working with callous disregard to all laws. Members of any house may make use of the Library’s resources, although in recent decades high-ranking GFL administrators have renounced their own houses. In this way, Library has become as influential as any house, led by powerful wizards who seek to further their own knowledge, the scope of the GFL’s body of knowledge, or the strength of the GFL in general.
